I always hear people talk about a lot of the different (open and closed) churches in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia. One I don’t hear a lot about is Saint Joachim’s. This little church was tucked away on Titus Avenue a block off Broadway at the corner of Empire Street. For those not familiar with it, here is a history of the church.

It is currently a mosque. After Saint Joachim, it was an evangelical church for awhile.

My mother was baptized at St. Joachim’s church in 1014. She went to work at Guardian Angel’s Day Nursery somewhere in the 1930’s to 1940’s and she and my dad were married there in 1944.

I lived on Titus St. right across from the rectory.
