Rev. Thaddeus Bocianowski named Pastor of Saint Stanislaus, Saint John Kanty and Saint Adalbert Basilica

Father BocianowskiIt was announced at parish masses this weekend at Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint John Kanty and Saint Stanislaus that Father Thaddeus Bocianowski, Pastor of Saint Adalbert’s, would also assume that role with the other two churches.

This comes on the heels of the announcement in October that Bishop Edward Grosz would be stepping down as Pastor of Saint Stan’s would be linked with Saint John Kanty as parishes.  Saint John  Kanty Pastor Father Antoni Lutostanski is retiring on 12/01.

I attended 11 am Mass today at Saint Adalbert Basilica where Father Bocianowski read a 11/11/09 letter from Buffalo Diocese Bishop Edward Kmiec announcing his new role of Pastor of all three churches.

The change will take place 12/01/09.

  1. Wow, is he going to do masses at each church every week? I wonder what this ultimately means for Adalbert’s and Kanty’s.

  2. I can tell you what this means for Kantys and Adalberts. They are destined to close. The move just pushes them one step closer.

  3. This is not the time to talk on what may happen in the future. As a lifelong parishioner of St. Stanislaus, we need to support him any way we can. I presume he will have other priests helping him out. All what matters is what will happen on December 1st. Pray that the Holy Spirit will guide him in his new assignments. No one wants to see any parish close. I know many people at St. John Kanty’s and they want their church to remain open just like I want to see St. Stanislaus remain open. Maybe Father Ted is the man to do what he can to keep all churches open. We need to support him. And for your information, St. Stanislaus could close tommorrow because of its financial troubles.

  4. I will support Father Ted, but I think there is more at work here and agree with Peter that it doesn’t look good for Adalbert’s or Kanty’s.

  5. This could be the beginning of the end for Polish churches on the East Side. The fact that a full-ti,e pastor was not named to St. Stanislaus is highly telling. Also that the Church is being named a shrine and cultural center could also be telling – perhaps St. Stan’s will become a museaum of sorts and a church available for special occassions to placate the Polish community. Such a shame – Kmiec has let us down brothers and sisters.

  6. To Ron S. – St. Stan’s in financial trouble ? How? Look at the millions of dollars pumped into the physical plant? How could this be possible?

  7. Believe me, as a lifelong parishioner, we had some money, but not enough now even for a rainy day since the Bishop used it to re do the whole complex.

  8. Obviously, some people have a personal vendetta against Bishop Grosz and St. Stans. Is it because of their own inadequacies?

Didn’t the church need a new heating system? I remember coming to a service and smoke was coming out of my mouth. What about you?

Yes, no one wants to see their church close but with negativism, rumors, and ill-will, it will happen like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Everyone needs to be positive, work together, be Christian and unite and then GREAT THINGS CAN HAPPEN.

  9. Wally, As a lifelong parishioner of St. Stans I know things needed to be done. Msgr. Gabalski did what needed to be done but he saved money for a rainy day. Bishop did a great job and I supported him. I am very, very active at the church, was on the Parish Council, but Bishop spend way to much and before he left he was in need of money. Did we need expensive chandaliers from Spain? Did the altar need to be moved? What I said about the money situation is not a rumor or being negative. What I have said is the whole TRUTH. Are you a parishioner and someone who donates to the church? Are you someone there who attends mass every week or just a visitor? Do you give of your time and work at functions or participate in a church ministry like I do? I love St. Stanislaus Church and have always supported what each pastor did during my life, but Bishop did use to much money and did not save for a rainy day. How would you like to hear week and week out that we need money or hear it at Parish Council meetings every month? Before you say anything, come and become a parishioner of the church and if you are, how about becoming more active so the church will stay alive. I will support Father Ted totally. Will you? With all of our help all three churches will survive. If they don’t, then it is your fault, my fault.
