Picturing A Polish Easter

Buffalo, NY…Picturing A Polish Easter: Corpus Christi Church, Buffalo, NY in Government Photography, 1943.

This exhibition displays thirty-four black and white photographs showing the celebration of Easter at Corpus Christi Church (1943) through the lens of Marjory Collins(1912-1985). The photos are part of a collection of a project of the Farm Security Administration-Office of War Information Photograph Collection (Library of Congress). The images in the Farm Security Administration-Office of War Information Collection are among the most famous documentary photographs ever produced.

This unique exhibit was on display last year at Easter time.  Due to the tremendous interest in these photographs, the exhibit will once again be displayed at the Kolbe Center, located at 178 Clark St., across from Corpus Christi Church, near the Broadway Market.  Visitors making their traditional Easter visit to the Broadway Market are invited to visit Corpus Christi Church and the exhibit.  The church and the exhibit will be open April 5- April 7 from 10:00am-5:00pm.  The exhibit is curated by Robert J. Fronckowiak, with technical assistance from Christy May of WNED-TV, producer of Polonia: Western New York’s Polish-American Legacy.

Additional items will include a display of more than 20 beautiful handmade Palms, imported from Poland, created from dried flowers and wheat, along with additional Polish crafts.

Admission is free, but visitors are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items, which will then be donated to the Response to Love Center.
