Williams unveils new alternative academy

Quordon Love, 17, wants to be a building contractor, so he’s entering the new Academy School @ 44 next week to start his senior year.
That is, the new alternative school “at” the former Lincoln Academy School 44 at 1369 Broadway. It will later have its own new building.

“It’s not for “bad’ kids,” said Quordon, who has studied for the past three years at Middle College High School at Erie Community College. “It’s an alternative to sitting six hours in class. I’ll spend half a day learning in school and half a day on building sites.”

The program at Academy School @ 44, based on the former Alternative High School on Oak Street, has been nearly a year in the making and was unveiled Thursday evening with a reception at the Adam’s Mark.

“They’re not “bad’ children,” said School Superintendent James A. Williams. “Some of them might have had some bad behaviors that we must correct. The goal is high school graduation and becoming contributing citizens.”
