Buffalo News Everybodys Column: Polish-built churches are truly magnificent

I read with interest Richard Huntington’s May 7 article on Buffalo architecture. While his list included some good candidates, I was disappointed that he failed to include any of the Polish-built churches on the East Side.

St. Adalbert’s, Corpus Christi and St. Stanislaus churches were all completed between 1891 and 1909, including separate work on some of the towers. These include some wonderful Romanesque revival architecture. At least two of the churches require restoration work, which does not detract from their basic beauty.

In my opinion, the observer should be cautioned that the largest example of an architectural type may not be the best or most attractive. Perhaps one of these buildings would be in his list of 11?
