AM-POL Eagle: Malecki’s Meats Promotional Item Brings Back Memories

Hey Greg,

A few weeks ago you ran a “Remember When” ad for Malecki’s Polka Brand Sausage. Well I dug through my drawers and found this. I remember using this in high school and thinking I was cool. Do you know whatever happened to Malecki’s Meats?

Chuck, that’s a pretty neat pocket protector and I’m sure you were the coolest guy in school. The pocket protector is the key accessory of nerds, scientists, and tech billionaires; it was also invented right here in Buffalo. Hurley Smith, an honorable but unemployed engineer designed it in the attic of his Central Park home to prevent staining and fraying of his shirts from pens, pencils, and tools. He moved to Lansing, MI and started a plastics company and made pocket protectors for the rest of his days.
