What a crazy bleeped up world we live in…people stealing from a church.

I found out about this late last night…I will try to find out more later today.

🙁

UPDATE: 11:56 am

I spoke with CC…

The theft was by someone who has done it before at the church. The items have been returned.

This incident and the previous encounters with the individual are not the norm and isolated.

  1. If, as the story states, that some items were recovered then they have to have some idea of who was behind the theft. Let’s hope that someone is held accountable.

  2. More police need to be driving around the streets of the area, not standing outside by their building on Bailey.

  3. Cameras. They need cameras in the church. The Pauline’s at the shrine in Doylestown – a beautiful enclave community – is in the midst of putting cameras in their lower shrine because of vandals. Perhaps we should raise the funds to put cameras in the church so there will be a record of who took what and did what and when. The church can then remain open.

  4. I actually applaud the Paulines for keeping the church open during the day and having faith that nothing will happen and to be honest, nothing really ever does.

We have discussed installing cameras and have the framework in place to do so, but honestly, after speaking with the church today, I don’t think we should overreact and I feel better about the incident.

  5. Like I said Stan, we have discussed and I am sure we will be discussing again after this incident.

  6. Hey Chris,
You “feeling better about the incident” would suggest that you know details of what happened. The only thing that would make me “feel better” would be the knowledge that it was an inside job. Is this, in fact, the case?

  7. Chris: I am glad you discussed and will be discussing. I simply asked your opinion on whether cameras are reactive or proactive. I was garnering your opinion.

The Pauline Fathers ar OLC in Doylestown, PA, find that the use of video recorders aka cameras are a proactive step in being certain that safety of objects and people is foremost. I wondered what your take on the situation was and is at the moment.

It may be an object this time. But what about when it is a person? I was in the church last Christmas during the day – all the Christmas trees were lit and it looked gorgeous. I played the piano in there for about 30 minutes. The sacristy was open, monstrance in clear view. I must admit, I wondered about the prudence in keeping the church open with no security. Sure, we have to have faith – but God also gave us intellect/reason to use with out faith. So it is that I wonder if a security system of some type might synthesize faith and reason.

  8. @Neil It wasn’t an inside job and spoke with CC earlier today to find out exactly what happened.

@Stan Are putting cameras in proactive or reactive…putting them in based solely on this isolated incident would be reactive. This is why it warrants a close look at and some discussion. I trust that our Lady and our faith will guide us in our discussions.

  9. C.C. defintely needs security cameras. There is is no excuse in this day & age. The church is too vulnerable being open not to have cameras.
