(By Glenn Gramigna) As Buffalo Common Council President Dave Franczyk looked out on his highly successful Erie Basin Marina fundraiser recently, he reflected on an almost 20 year career in public life that has been based on a foundation of fundamental principles. While it’s true that Franczyk’s wind blown mid June event had attracted its share of WNY political notables including County Democratic Chairman Len Lenihan, fellow Common Council Members Michael Kearns, Dave Rivera, Rich Fontana, and Mike LoCurto, County Elections Commissioner Dennis Ward, Buffalo City Court Judge Debra Givens, state senate candidate Mike Kuzma, and others, the Fillmore District Council Member wasn’t thinking about them as he searched for the roots of his long political career.

“I think it really goes back to my father, Stan Franczyk who had a long career in public service,” he recalled. “He taught me that public service is an honorable profession. As long as you are honest, you have nothing to worry about. I’ve always believed that the key to being in public life is to come to work every day to do your job and to always keep your attention on serving the people. That’s why I love this job, because it gives me the opportunity to serve the people of the Fillmore District and the City of Buffalo every single day. Sometimes people ask me why I’ve stayed in public life so long. That’s the answer.”

  1. I am glad Franczyk loves a job he has failed at. Wake up people and look around the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood. If this is what loving his job is, I can only imagine what it would be like if he didn’t like his job.

  2. Because all of us are responsible for the state of the neighborhood, so I’m interested in knowing how you participate.
