Sad…Sad…Sad…news…Michael Miller has passed away

I received a phone call late last night that my good friend, BFA co-founder, Central Terminal Restoration Corporation President and Preservation Buffalo Niagara Executive Director Michael Miller had died.

I am devasted by the news…I owe Mike so much…he was a confidant and friend…he loved the neigborhood…he always pointed me in the right direction with his advice…say a prayer for him and his family…we have lost one truly remarkable person.

  1. I spoke with Mike just a few weeks ago and he was excited about his new job and prospects for the Central Terminal.

    RIP Mike

  2. I can’t imagine what Mike’s family and close friends are experiencing right now. I have known Mike for less than two years, and I am deeply saddened. My most sincere condolence to his family and closest friends. Mike was truly an inspiration to the preserving of the Central Terminal and to the WNY community. And, thank you, Chris for posting such good photo memories of Mike.

  3. I’ve been thinking about Mike all day since I heard the news. I think what made him stand out to me as such a great guy is that he always made the person he was talking to feel important. Mike was so genuinely nice and it showed in everything he did. What a tragic loss. My heart breaks for his family.

  4. A huge loss for Buffalo, yet the example he set will continue to be an inspiration for us all. We will forever see the end results of his efforts. Mike and I started exchanging emails a couple of years ago, as time went on we discovered we had been neighbors a long time ago in the Cold Springs neighborhood– we both were baptized at Our Lady of Lourdes. I spent the evening re-reading those emails and one stood out in particular:

“I tend to follow my heart, close my ears and move forward, regardless of what people say. That’s an attitude I got from the CTRC. When I started, and we wanted to hold events, we were told that nobody would come to a dilapidated train station in a crime ridden area. 75,000 visitors later, we can say that we proved them wrong. They also told us that we were crazy to ever believe that restoring the terminal was even remotely possible.”

Rest in peace my friend, you will be sorely missed but always remembered.

  5. Buffalo really needs more people like Mike Miller. What a tragic loss for everyone. The passage [1 Corinthians 15:52] “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet” never rang truer. Rest in Eternal Peace.
