From BUFFALOI.COM: Bass Pro…Central Terminal or K-Mart

I found this today while surfing around…an interesting read…

Excerpt from BuffaloI post:

“I think we ought to go for a WAL*BASS, but not on the waterfront.  How many experts have we brought in to tell us we should not put projects on the waterfront that could just as easily go somewhere else.

If you want a large and spectacular Bass Pro that’s unique, put it in the Central Terminal.  It would be ideal  for such a store, and would have the mutual advantage of being within walking distance of the Broadway Market.  And it that’s too big, build your WAL*BASS size store at Buffalo’s most famous address, 998 Broadway, the former Satler’s and now abandoned K-Mart, across from the Market.

Seriously, it would be a great spot.  There’s lots of parking, and certainly putting in some sort of trolley ride from the Terminal/Market area is do-able since the tack right-of-way is already in place.  Memorial Drive could start to be a cluster of shopping, serving South Buffalo the way Bendersonville serves North Buffalo, but hopefully with a little more class.

The Tower terminal can be seen from just about everywhere.  Light it up, Bass Pro, and you will have the most visible landmark on the Buffalo skyline.  That would make a good impression, eh?

Oh yeah, I almost forgot.  We don’t promote economic development on the East Side, do we?”
