Phase I of Tower Repairs at Corpus Christi Begins…

Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church announced today that it is beginning Phase 1 of its repair of the North and South towers.

Weaver Roofing, as subcontractor to Allstate Development, Inc,, will utilize a high lift bucket to install copper cap flashing on the intermediate ledges of both towers.

“This repair needs to be done now,” said Ted Fyda of the Friends of Corpus Christi Committee. “When completed this permanent repair will keep the stone masonry and mortar dry so as to prevent freezing and cracking.”

Phase 2 tower repair and restoration will consist of masonry work and stabilization. Phase 3 will involve restoration of the upper cupolas. The project cost is $30,000. This is the third project to be undertaken during the Church’s $1 million Preservation Fund campaign.

Previously, the slate roof of the church was repaired and the stone and mortar on all four sides of the church were sealed along with aisle roof resurfacing. To date nearly $300,000 has been raised in the first 18 months of this five year campaign.
