Preservation in Perspective – The Willard Hotel in Washington DC

A few weeks ago, CBS Sunday Morning show had a segment honoring the 20th anniversary of the restoration of the historic 1901 Beaux Arts luxury hotel, The Willard, on Pennsylvania Avenue, just two blocks away from the White House. This hotel played host to thousands of international dignitaries in its rich history.

As a frame of reference for some of our beloved, but damaged landmarks (ie. Transfiguration Church, Central Terminal, 892 Genesee St. etc.), I’d like to offer the following comparison.
