Photo – 1957 Ford Skyliner Retractable Hardtop
Besides my love for great architecture, my other passion is for uniquely designed automobiles, such as this wonderful 1957 Ford Skyliner. Yes, 40+ years before the Mercedes SLK, Volvo C70 and VW Eos aluminum retractable hardtops of today, Ford attempted its own version for the 1957 through 1959 full size Skyliners using the heavy gauge Detroit steel used at that time.
These cars are pretty rare these days, as the owners of the past got tired of replacing the motors that powered the extremely heavy roof and rear deck lid, and allowed them to rot in junk yards. It was a very pleasant surprise to see this beautiful 1957 Skyliner at the Broadway Market car show this past Saturday.
