Broadway K-mart Making It Harder to Live in Neighborhood
~Al Vaughters (WIVB)

(Buffalo, NY, March 30, 2006) – – It was a dream come true when Habitat for Humanity volunteers helped to build a new home for an east side Buffalo family, but Call 4 Action’s Al Vaughters reports a long-abandoned retail store has begun to threaten that dream.

The old K-mart store on Broadway is becoming a neighborhood garbage bin since the blue light was turned out three years ago.

New owners from Brooklyn bought the property in July 2003, and haven’t even taken the sign down.

In this long-time Polish community, it is an eyesore.

“There is too much garbage. No people, no garbage… Everything. Garbage, garbage!”

And the neighborhood is fighting back.

“The owners of the property should definitely take care of their property.”

Regina Howard lives in the shadow of the old K-mart store.
