Brown seeks a shake-up at Broadway Market

(By Brian Meyer – NEWS STAFF REPORTER) Mayor Byron W. Brown called for the executive director of the Broadway Market to be replaced and for changes to be made to the board of the struggling East Side landmark.

“I feel changes are needed on the board and a new executive director,” Brown said in a statement released Thursday afternoon. This marks the second time the mayor called for a management upheaval at the market.

“Now is the time to begin discussions in haste about the future management and operations to protect and strengthen the future of the market,” Brown’s statement continued.

Brown said he wants to replace the market’s director, Richard M. Fronczak, before the end of his contract term in June 2009. Fronczak could not be reached to comment late Thursday.
