Bill Blake, Broadway Fillmore Alive friend, finds interesting old neighborhood photos in the research he does. He graciously shares with us. Blake sent along this photo from 1936. It’s of the Adam Mickiewicz Hall. The photo is great.
“December 24, 1936 – About 30,000 children will receive toys today through The Courier-Express Toy Fund. Thousands of families will come to the Polish-American Welfare headquarters at Mickiewicz Hall 612 Fillmore Avenue, to collect toys which have already been allotted to them. Two trucks loaded with toys are pictured as they arrived at the hall.”
Wow! 30,000 kids received toys! That’s quite a toy fund! What an awesome city!
Indeed.
Nice shot. We need a picture of the top of the columns.
