(by Jeff Z. Klein / Apr. 7, 2015) Bulldozing history to honor history may seem like a contradictory idea, but Mayor Byron Brown seems prepared to do exactly that. The Brown administration is discussing a plan to demolish the Broadway barns on the near East Side. That’s the building that has served as a truck garage and road salt storage facility for the city’s Department of Public Works for more than six decades.
Brown’s plan is to throw down the hulking old structure in order to clear land for unspecified “development” along the Michigan Street African-American Heritage Corridor.
