What ended up happening is something I never expected…we quickly met that goal and in just under two weeks, $9772.25 was raised for Saint Stan’s, Corpus Christi and Saint John Kanty/Saint Adalbert Basiclia. This means each will receive $3257.41!
Though the campaign could have went on for a little more time, I decided to end it today to ensure that everyone who ordered will receive their shirts or hoodies by Holy Week.
I have to admit that while I sat at my computer closing out the campaign online, I cried a little bit. Not sad tears. But tears of joy at the support this effort garnered over the last two weeks from the people of Buffalo, Polonia and from people across the country. Buffalo is truly “The City of Good Neighbors” and thank you…every single one of you who made this the crazy success it was.
The money will make a real difference for the churches and shows them that people care.
I was quoted in the AM-POL Eagle saying this:
“Our Polonia legacy churches need the support of Western New York’s Polish community. These places are our living-breathing history and religious culture. Our ancestors built these houses of worship to reflect the country they left. We owe it to them to support our local Polish sacred sites.”
I firmly believe what I said there. These churches are not only important to the history of Buffalo’s Polonia…they are also part of history of our great city. They are still open and remain active over 100+ years after they were established. Support them year-round!
The churches should receive their funds in about two weeks.
