‘Forefathers’ Eve’ at Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle on 11/01

The Adam Mickiewicz Library and Dramatic Circle located at 612 Fillmore Ave. in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia is performing a section of Mickiewicz’s ‘Forefathers’ Eve’ at 7 PM Saturday November 1, 2014.

As the oldest Polish American organization in Western New York and the oldest surviving Polish library in Buffalo and home to Torn Space Theatre we’re proud to present what is known as one of the most important works of European Romanticist poetry for the second year running.

This work was banned in occupied Poland for its patriotic sentiment and is rarely performed to date. We focus on Part II in which peasants conjure ghosts to allow their passage into heaven just in time to celebrate All Souls’ Day (In Polish: Dzien Zadusny-day of the Spirits).

At Mickiewicz Library we are proud to carry on such traditions as developed and brought to this country by our own Forefathers. We will offer light fare and shot specials as well as our ever present selection of Polish and European beers to toast and celebrate our deceased loved ones in keeping with the custom that spurred on this particular drama. All are welcome.
