Saint John Kanty Church is pleased to announce that its alumni committee has successfully raised the necessary funds to complete “The Mary Project.” The campaign was launched in March. The project will replace the existing Immaculate Conception statue of Mary, Mother of Christ, at the corner of Broadway and Brownell in Buffalo with a new one. The landscaping in the grotto where the statue is located is also being redesigned and enhanced. The final piece of the project will have the cornerstone of the original Saint John Kanty School moved to the corner. The school stood at this location until the 1960s when it was torn down after students moved into the church’s new school.

On Sunday, May 18, 2014, Saint John Kanty Church will dedicate the new Immaculate Conception statue after the 10:30am Mass with a traditional May Crowning and procession from the church. The church invites the general public to come to Mass and participate in the crowning.

The Saint John Kanty Parish Community is excited to bring a new look to this corner where the original Immaculate Conception statue of Mary acted as a neighborhood beacon of hope for over forty years and will continue many years into the future with installation of the new statue.

Wagner Monuments, Pilar Landscaping and Pines Garden Center provided work and consultation on the project to help bring the vision for “The Mary Project” to life.

Saint John Kanty Church, established 1892, is located at 101 Swinburne Street in East Buffalo’s Historic Polonia.
