Corpus Christi Launches Online Fundraising Campaign To Restore North Bell Tower

indeThe Friends of Corpus Christi is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to raise the funds necessary to restore historic Corpus Christi church on Buffalo’s East Side.

In 2011, the group was awarded a $400,000 grant from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund to restore this landmark’s north bell tower. This critical grant requires the group to raise matching dollars in the amount of $162,000. As part of their efforts to meet this goal, the Friends have launched an online appeal on Indiegogo, an international crowdfunding site where anyone can raise money for arts projects, charity, small businesses, and more. The goal is to raise $30,000 in sixty days.

During the last eight years, the Friends group has raised more than $1.5 million and completed eight projects, among them being: replacing the church’s 21,000 sq. ft. roof with Vermont slate; stabilizing the impressive rose window over the organ loft; conserving the spectacular mural above the church altar; and restoring the south bell tower and cupola.

It is hoped that the Indiegogo campaign will attract an expanded group of supporters for this time-sensitive project and bring new audiences to the church for worship and special events.
