Buffalo’s east side was once a thriving community, but today the neighborhood suffers from major disinvestment and the only strategy for addressing the “housing issue” has been demolition. However with the recent success of the Larkin District, postive market forces are coming to this area. With focus and coordinated effort, it may be possible to leverage this momentum and extend it’s reach north into the Fillmore Corridor neighborhoods. Broadway Fillmore Housing services will be hosting a community workshop on May 9, 2013 to give community members a chance to talk about what aspects of their neighborhood they would like to see retained, and what kinds of changes could be made that would improve conditions for locat residents by harnessing and direcitng emerging market forces.
Funding for this effort is provided by EPA’s Building Blocks for Sustainable Communities program. In 2012, EPA selected 56 communities nationwide to receive technical assistance through this program. This process will help community members better understand the benefits of smart growth and strategies for implementation. After the workshop, EPA team members will provide each community with specific options and action steps for consideration.
Please join us for a an evening discussion to share ideas about what works in the Fillmore Corridor Neighborhoods, and what we would like to change by building on the market forces that are beginning to emerge. The meeting will take place:
