These photos come courtesy of BFA friend Scott Frederickson via Facebook.

I love comparative shots of the neighborhood from different time periods.

The photo from 1963 is also of a flood the neighborhood had. Thanks Scott for sending along!

  1. wow…. we used to own 94 Warren St. Bought it in 1992 from a guy that had lived there for 70 years. We had high hopes and put a lot of sweet equity into it only to have it ransacked by the tenants. Very hard lesson to learn and sad to see it happen. We tried but it was like shoveling sand against the tide. Keep fighting Broadway Fillmore Alive… we are looking forward to the 7 Church Tour on Holy Thursday!

  2. I lived on 70 Warren until I was 17, then went off to college. That was 1972. Fifteen or so years later, my folks moved to 8 Warren. As the years passed, they sat on their porch and watched the drug deals go down. One time when I was visiting, gun shots were going off and the police were circling the house in a police helicopter with a spot light shining. My mom was mugged twice walking to church and when my dad was attacked by a stray pit bull, it was time to do something. My siblings and I all lived out of State but one day in 2001, we just showed up, packed them up and moved them. We bought a house for them two blocks from my sister in Texas. We had to actually pay someone to take mom and dad’s house. We really hated to uproot them. Dad had gone to Corpus Christi his whole life but it just wasn’t safe for them any more. Dad passed away in 2003 and we followed his wishes and brought him home to Buffalo.

    1. Thanks for sharing Gail. I remember your parents well and a little bit of you and your siblings. I lived across the yard from the Orens’ (next door at 72 Warren) on Sweet Ave and was your parents paper girl for a little over 4 years during the 80’s. I was just telling my kids about your dad the other day!! Shared with them some of my childhood and how he put up that new fence in his yard and HATED when Richie and I used it to help climb over into each other’s yards. Mr. Eddie yelled at us regularly!! LOL. I also recall my mom telling me how your parents bought #8—-that WAS a beautiful house! Good to know you rescued them and moved them into a safe environment. It’s just terrible what has happened to our neighborhood. I have happy memories… And no one can take that away.
