Change at Saint Adalbert Basilica and Saint John Kanty

Got word over the weekend that parishioners at Saint John Kanty/Saint Adalbert Basilica were informed at Masses that Father Thaddeus Bocianowski would no longer be the pastor of both.

Father Ronald Baginski will assume the pastor role.

No explanation was given for the change that will take effect this coming Saturday.

Father Baginski has been celebrating Masses at both churches since Father Thaddeus became pastor of Saint Adalbert Basilica, Saint Stainislaus and Saint John Kanty.

  1. There are actually two parts to this announcement. In addition to the pastor change, it was announced that the link between Kanty’s (with Adalbert’s) and Stan’s has been eliminated and they’re now separate parishes.

  2. Still leaves me wondering if this is good thing or a bad thing happening to us……I imagine time will tell ….. and all will be revealed ……

  3. As a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, I know for fact that father ted was very overworked. He was in charge of 3 churches, 2 cemeteries, plus chaplain of the Polish saturday School and still going to nurshing homes, etc., the man was overworked. Bishop Kmiec should not have put him in charge of so many churches, etc. No man any age can do all that and have time for himself. Father Ron has had mass for us many times at St. Stans when Father Ted was either at Kanty’s or Adalbert’s. He is a great priest like Father Ted is and the people of St. John Kanty’s will have a great priest who can give his whole attention to them to help them remain alive just like Father ted can now do to keep St. Stan’s, the Mother Church of Polonia alive and strong. It is not easy running to inner city churches with dwindling members and bad financial situations. People who do not belong to these churches have no clue how hard it is for these churches. Attending mass once in a while and coming for tours does NOT help these churches. Faithful parishioners who come and worship EVERY weekend and support the various functions at the church and give of their time and talent and treasure only really help these churches. I am a proud fourth generation member of my family to be a member of St. Stanislaus Church. People need to come to these churches always or Mother Church or St. John Kantys, where I have quite of bit of wonderful friends, will never survive and will end up like St. Adalberts, which is only open for special masses and functions, or other Polish and other ethnic churches in this Diocese which were closed by our First Polish Bishop. Wake up POLONIA.

  4. Ron…as a parishioner of St. Adalbert’s, where Father Thad was pastor prior the JOFG, you are not telling ANY of us anything that we do not already know about Father Thad. You are not telling ANY of us anything that we do not know about Father Ron. St. Adalbert’s is an oratory because the bishop CHOSE to make us an oratory, not because the PARISHIONERS of St. Adalbert did not support it or attend mass on a regular basis. I will miss having Father Thad as our pastor, but I am quite certain Father Ron will have a not so difficult transition into it. I am just leery of the reasoning the bishop has now for making this move…that’s where MY concern of this switch is.

Father Thad….you will always hold a special place in the hearts of MY family members for all you have done for us throughout the last 16 years that we have had the privilege of being your parishioners. Thank you and God bless you ( and your family)….
