Rachel Henderson’s trip to Israel earlier this year altered her perception not just of the Middle East country, but also of her hometown of Buffalo.
Israel, she said, seemed nothing like the combat-ravaged nation portrayed on television newscasts. Instead, it was a peaceful, spiritual and downright comfortable place.
“That’s how I want my own city to feel,” said Henderson, a 19-year-old college student.
Henderson acknowledged that Buffalo, with its gang violence and senseless deaths, has a long way to go to become a more comfortable place. But she and a small group of other young people who dub themselves the “Now Generation” have set about to change that.
This Saturday, after weeks of planning, the group will host the inaugural Peace Walk & Rally from Broadway Market to Buffalo City Hall.
