Lt. Col Matt Urban reaped a formidable number of combat honors for his World War II exploits, including the Medal of Honor, which was awarded posthumously.
On Saturday, a growing tribute to the Buffalo legend was planted near the Adam Plewacki Post, American Legion, 385 Paderewski Drive.
The Urban trees took root thanks to the continuing efforts of Re-Tree WNY’s army of volunteers, armed with spades and rakes. Hundreds of trees were planted during this latest outing to replace Buffalo-area trees that were felled by the leaden fury of the October Surprise snowstorm in 2006.
The hundreds of volunteers who turned out Saturday represented many organizations, like Buffalo ReUse.
