All Souls Commemoration – 10/31/2010

Please join us in praying for the souls of our dearly departed loved ones on Sunday, Oct. 31 in the age old Polish tradition of visiting the cemetery around All Souls Day.

In Poland, people travel from all over the country to visit the graves of their dearly departed. They place candles and flowers (usually mums) on graves of ancestors and friends, favorite teachers, etc.

Here are a video of how it’s done there:

Here in Buffalo, more and more people have gathered at the Polish Veterans Plot at St. Stan’s Cemetery in a revival of the Polish tradition. Last year about 80 of us came together.

We will have special Polish cemetery candles for sale, as seen in the video, which contain covers to shield the flame from wind and rain.

After the cemetery, we will get together for something warm to eat at the Corpus Christi Parish Kolbe Center at 176 Clark St. in Buffalo. Please let us know if you’re coming to the cemetry or to both and if you’d like to purchase a candle (btwn. $8-$10).
