Hundreds of people filled St. Adalbert Basilica, the second oldest Polonian church in Buffalo, on Sat., Sept. 11 for the commencement of a year-long celebration for the 125th anniversary of the parish. The main celebrant and homilist was Msgr. Matthew S. Kopacz assisted by the concelebrants: Rev. Thaddeus Bocianowski, Rev. Gary Szczepankiewicz, Rev. Donald Myszka, and Rev. Ronald Bagienski. The Buffalo Touch added to the atmosphere of joy acting as a choir and bringing polka music to the service.

The words of welcome were delivered by the pastor of St. Adalbert Parish – Rev. Thaddeus Bocianowski. In his sermon Msgr. Matthew Kopacz spoke of the glorious history of the parish, which started with a little chapel built by parishioners in three days. The first Mass was celebrated there on Sept. 12, 1886.

The enormous efforts of the long list of pastors beginning with Rev. A. Klawiter, should be appreciated, he said, as from the very beginning they changed parish life. The new church added a school and served the Polish community for over a century. A special role in this work was played by Felician Sisters, the devoted teachers of the parish school.
