Americorps VISTA is working this summer with Schiller Park Community Services on Genesee St. The center serves residents all over the East Side, and provides a safe place for children and youth throughout the year.
Starting next week, they will be working with the Cheektowaga Youth Department on an urban/suburban theater camp called “Over the Edge.” The goal of the camp is to create a dialogue between the young people in this ever fluctuating border community. The workshop/camp runs Monday-Thursday from 5-8pm and is free for all participants.
The goal was fifteen Buffalo youth (ages 12-18) participants in the workshop. The center has not yet met that goal, and are eager to spread the word of the workshop and get attendance up! It’s a really wonderful opportunity for youths to get experience acting, writing and designing an original stage production- in their own words.
The camp runs June 28-August 12 Monday-Friday 5:00-8:00 pm. Youth ages 12-18 are encouraged to participate. All activities are free and a light dinner will be provided.
