AM-POL Eagle: Final Polish Mass at St. Adalbert’s

(By Michelle Fritz – AM-POL Eagle) St. Adalbert’s Basilica held its final Polish Mass last Sun., Jan. 10 at 9 a.m. The Mass was celebrated by Rev. Thaddeus Bocianowski, who was recently appointed pastor of St. Stanislaus, St. John Kanty and St. Adalbert Basilica.

Fr. Bocianowski said Masses will be celebrated in Polish at the parish on special occasions. He said it was impossible for him to keep the Polish Mass going at all three of the parishes because of scheduling conflicts. Mass in Polish is offered at St. John Kanty on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and at St. Stanislaus on Sundays at noon.

Fr. Bocianowski said, “It is sad because this is the end of Polish Mass (at St. Adalbert’s), but this is the beginning of many churches seeing the ‘last.’ I am being very realistic about the situation.”

Parish Trustee Ronald Suchocki said, “I think it’s an end of an era. It’s a shame. I think for Polish people in the area who are attending these Masses it was almost inevitable. St. Stanislaus is going to continue to have its Polish Mass. Since Father (Bocianowski) is now taking care of all three parishes, we’ve had to cut back on a couple of Masses.”
