To Farm or Not to Farm…shouldn’t be a question at all!

(video of Wilson Street farm area)

I was surprised when I read in the Buffalo News today that a proposed urban farm for Wilson was turned down by the city.  I met Janice and Mark Stevens this past summer at a East Side GNPA meeting and was immediately wowed by their plan to transform most of Wilson from Broadway to Sycamore into a two acre urban farm.  What struck me most about the plan is that it was solid…something you don’t see often with the pie-in-the-sky proposals that make there way into the neighborhood and city.  The city denied there request because they want to save the land for future development…I am not even going to go there…there are so many vacant parcels in BF…this plan is innovative and mirrors what is being done in other cities.

For those who haven’t been down this stretch of Wilson in awhile, there are three houses remaining on the west side of the street.  The east side of Wilson basically has garages for the homes and businesses on Fillmore.

I am going to do a podcast interview with Mark Stevens tomorrow and post.

You can read more about the Stevens and their plan by reading clicking here for story in the Buffalo News.

BFA is going to get involved and help advocate for the plan…if you are interested in helping, drop me an email at broadwayfillmore@gmail.com.
