ONCE AN EAGLE ALWAYS AN EAGLE: Henry Stasiak, Frank Stanczewski, Eleanor Stanczewski, and Richard Stasiak celebrate the reissue of an Eagle Scout Medal well-deserved.

(Michelle Fritz – Am-Pol Eagle) Though war, a distraught father, and time had taken away Frank Stanczewski’s treasured Eagle Scout medal he always felt he was an Eagle Scout. And, on Oct. 29 in a surprise ceremony the National Boy Scout organization reissued Stanczewski’s long lost Eagle Scout medal as about 50 people celebrated Stanczewski’s lifetime of service with the scouts at St. John Kanty’s in Buffalo.

Stanczewski, now 85 remembers when World War II was breaking out and young men across the country were being drafted for service into the military. Stanczewski should have considered himself the fortunate one. His father, having political connections, arranged with members of the draft board for his son to be able to stay safely at home.
