HT Marty Biniasz for photos and info in this story…

Oddly, doesn’t the second photo look a bit like the Broadway Market?  I thought it does.

The second picture is of the Hamilton Farmer’s Market.  It is about 45 minutes away from our own Broadway Market.

From Marty’s web site….

Originally founded in 1837, this indoors farmers market is located downtown at 55 York Blvd. and features the usual mix of local farm produce and ethnic specialties. The Hamilton Farmers Market is actually older than the city! It’s been rated one of the best farmers markets in Ontario, as goods are brought in from all over the Niagara garden belt.

The Market also offers a very strong supporting ethnic base, with many cultures being represented under one roof including: Italian, German, Hungarian, Caribbean, Asian and others. The Hamilton Farmers’ Market is a cross-roads and meeting place for many.

With a little creativity and proper leadership, I don’t think it is that far of a stretch to re-imagine the Broadway Market into something like the Hamilton Farmer’s Market.  It could truly be a place that would attract people from all over WNY and serve the community in which it is located.

  1. It goes to show us that with the right plan and the right people in place what can be done potentially with the broadway market we need change

  2. I’ve been to the Hamilton Market numerous times. It’s wonderful. In Buffalo, our market could thrive if the neighborhood is rebuilt.
