The Save Saint Adalbert’s group has a few updates on their efforts and they will be having a number of fundraisers coming up.

From a letter dated 07/11/08…

Dear Parish Family and Friends,

You will recall that on April 2, 2008 Bishop Kmiec issued a decree that St. Adalbert Parish would be merged into St. John Kanty effective September 1, 2008. We received the decree on April 9, 2008. On April 11, 2008 the St. Adalbert Parish Trustees and Council President sent a letter to the Bishop that we were formally beginning the Administrative Recourse Process against closing our parish, the Basilica of St. Adalbert in Buffalo, NY. This letter was in accordance with Canon Law which dictates that we must begin the appeal process within 10 days of the reception of the Bishop’s formal decree.

On April 22, 2008, Bishop Kmiec acknowledged receipt of our letter and wrote that “The execution of the decree will be suspended during the recourse process….St. Adalbert Parish continues to be within my Episcopal jurisdiction regarding all normal parish activities as defined by Canon Law.”

So the closing has been put on hold…

You can read the rest of the letter on the Save Saint Adalbert’s website…
