Two more vendors at the Broadway Market have closed in the past week, and a third tenant warned Thursday her business might not survive.
Meanwhile, city leaders have told the market’s board they want to see lease revisions before a check-cashing company is permitted to rent space vacated by Key- Bank, becoming an anchor tenant at the East Side retail icon.
I remember the old open air market when the fowl were alive and my parents selected the one they wanted. The farmer would prepare the animal while we shopped for other fresh food. We shopped on Saturday so Sunday mornings smelled like “heaven” while we waited for our dinner after mass, ususally around 1 pm. Oy, we could smell those dinners all over the neighborhood. The East Side of Buffalo had bakeries with the most wonderful goods which after purchase were wrapped in white paper and tied with string. It’s a wonder that any of those goodies ever made it home because the aroma was too tempting. Cohen’s Bakery is responsible for many of us cheating by buying an extra bread to be eaten on the way home at 4am.
I think big Sunday family dinners are a lost art form…
