I have to admit I was shocked when I heard about Tim Russert’s passing today.  My daughter was getting ready to go to work and I was looking for my car keys to give her a ride when the news came over radio.   I stopped dead and cried.

Tim Russert’s appeal to me and so many others is that he was one of us because he grew up like a lot of us…in a neighborhood not too different from B-F.  In this day and age of what we see and what the media passes off as journalism, he was the real deal.  He was simply more than a talking head.  In a lot of ways, he approached his role on “Meet the Press” as if he were asking the questions for the normal and everyday American.  Tim Russert often said that he framed his questions based on what his dad would want him to ask.

He also loved this crazy city of ours and used his platform to let the world know what great place Buffalo is. Tim never forgot where he came from.

Say a prayer for Tim Russert and his family today.

Click here for an excerpt from Tim Russert’s book “Big Russ and Me”…it is about Father’s Day and the Broadway Market.

If you haven’t read the book, buy it.

  1. Yesterday was a sad day for all of us. Thank you for always remembering where you came from Tim and for making Buffalo proud.

  2. Buffalo has lost a son, Buffalonians have lost a friend, and America has lost it’s only honest political commentator.
