WKBW: Concern over switching natural gas providers

(This story came about after my Aunt Denise contacted WKBW about what happened to my Babcia late last week…both are B-F residents…we need to lookout for our seniors…)

(Jenny Rizzo – WKBW)  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and that may be the case for companies trying to get you to switch natural gas providers. It’s happening more and more with salesman going door to door with promises of big savings. Twelve years ago, New York state de-regulated the natural gas market and now you can buy your natural gas from any number of energy service companies. They usually give you a guaranteed price for a certain amount of time. You could save big money. Then again, you might not. Some people are saying they were misled when they switched companies.

Denise contacted 7 News about a contract her 91-year-old mother signed yesterday with U.S. Energy Savings Company. Denise did not want us to broadcast her last name. She says her mother signed on the dotted line, not really knowing what she was agreeing to. “He came to the door, he said that he was the gas man. Being that today we were supposed to have the meters read, she thought it was someone offering her a good deal.”
