Solemnity of the Feast of Corpus Christi – 05/23 thru 05/25

Corpus Christo Procession

The Feast of Corpus Christi, the day on which the Catholic Church commemorates the institution of the Holy Eucharist, is celebrated with great pomp and solemnity throughout Poland and Polonia.

The Solemnity begins with the FORTY HOURS DEVOTION…to honor the Eucharist we will have Forty Hours Devotion beginning on Friday at 9:00P.M. and ending on Sunday at 1:00P.M. The church will be open for adoration throughout the night and day. We encourage you to come to church and spend some quite time with Jesus.

On Sunday, May25…Corpus Christi Church will join with St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Church in Buffalo to commemorate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Our parish, which bears the name of Corpus Christi, will celebrate the occasion with a solemn High Mass beginning at 1:30 pm. Music for this celebration will be sung in Polish and English.

Please note there will NOT be any other morning Masses on this day so we can all join together as a parish community.

Following the Mass, a procession will begin at Corpus Christi Church (3:00 pm) and proceed to St. Stanislaus Church. The procession is a significant ritual that involves bringing God into the community through the streets where people live and work, underscoring the Catholic faith that God dwells among us. Especially in recent years, hundreds of Western New Yorkers have commemorated this important event by participating in the outdoor church procession on Buffalo’s East Side.

Rev. Anzelm Chalupka, Pastor at Corpus Christi parish, will be the principal celebrant at this service. In keeping with tradition, the procession will pause for devotions at a total of four altars, including two outdoor altars created specifically for this feast. When the procession arrives at St. Stanislaus Church, Bishop Edward M. Grosz, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Buffalo and Pastor at St. Stanislaus Bishop and Martyr Church, will deliver the homily.

Light refreshments will be served immediately following the procession at St. Stanislaus Parish. Ample free parking will be available at St. Stanislaus, Corpus Christi, and the Broadway Market. Please invite your friends and family to join in this beautiful and inspirational celebration.

All girls between 5 and 12 years old throughout the Diocese of Buffalo, as well as those who are receiving First Communion this year, are encouraged to wear their white dresses and take part in this inspirational procession. Parents are asked to bring flower petals for their child to strew in the procession. Parents who would like their children to participate are asked to please call Helena Golebiowski at 892-5875.
