Friday it was announced that Saint Stanislaus School will close its doors in June of this year. Declining enrollment and a budget deficit were cited as chief reasons for the decision to close.
From the Buffalo News…
The school, which has pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade, has seen enrollment drop to 75 pupils, only 11 of them members of the parish. The school had a peak enrollment of 1,400 in 1888.
St. Stanislaus School opened in 1881 and has been staffed by the Felician Sisters for its entire 127- year history.
Saint Stan’s was the first Polish Catholic school in Buffalo and its growing Polonia at the time. It was also the last to remain.
The closing also marks an end of an era for the B-F neighborhood which will not have a Catholic school open in it for the first time since the 1800s when school opens in September.
Just another reason to thank the almight Politicians who helped to drive all the good people out of Buffalo.
I could just sit and cry at all the closings by the Diocese.
The only way to make certain that more church closings do not take place in the future is to beg the Diocese of Buffalo to begin some sort of evangelization in order to fill the churches. Other than that, these closings will be a much too common and sad thing. The Diocese must do their part. Cannot blame it all on politicians. Everyone is responsible.
