My 8th Grade dinner and dance…

bm.jpg

I was cleaning out my computer tonight and stumbled on this photo taken in February…this is where I had my 8th grade dinner-dance back in 1981 while attending Sain John Kanty School…it is pictures or scenes like these which get to me the most…this old tavern/gin mill is at the corner of Ashley and Milburn Streets…the likelihood is that this property’s days are numbered…one street corner bar whose stories and history will be forgotten and lost forever…it is sad…this is just one little place…many more await the same fate in B-F and other neighborhoods throughout Buffalo.

  1. Im sorry Chris.. I recognize the building and it is sad..I once counted 11 corner buildings that I suspected were formerly gin mills and I imagine they were once thriving places.. Thats why spots like Artys must be treasured and visited to keep the businesses going.

  2. I recall that as being Lustan’s? I fondly remember trick-or-treating there in the early 70’s – stepping up to all the “happy” guys at the bar with an open trick-or-treat bag as they all threw in quarters and dollar bills. Yes, the good ol’ days….

  3. Mike…Lustan’s was at Person and Grimes…I have a picture of it too…not much better shape…it is very weird walking or driving around the streets I grew up on seeing the transformation which has taken place in the last 10 to 20 years…

  4. I think the area between Smith and the beltline rail bridge in much better now that it was 7-10 years ago. It seems to have a lot less population due to the ongoing demo process. The area between the belt line bridge and Bailey is really rough. Seems as close to bailey

  5. NOT LUSTAN’S..LUSTAN’S IS ON GRIMES ST AND PERSON ST…IF YOU GOOGLE IT …THE SIGN IS STILL ON THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING…….. MIKE LUSTAN.
