I had a nice conversation with Michael McHugh tonight. He gave me an update on the St. Stan’s Gardens project. For the better part of the year, the housing development has been bogged down in bureaucracy and stalled a bit.
On Tuesday next week, the common council should give the project its rubber stamp which would allow the development to move forward. Mr. McHugh said if everything goes as planned, he will begin construction on a model home in September…his goal is to have 30 homes built in phase one of the project around St. Stan’s within a year or two.
The most interesting aspects of the project is the fact the homes will not be subsidized at all and is putting up his own money…also, he will only build homes when people fully qualify for a mortgage…he wants to build a strong base of home owners in Broadway-Fillmore.
Another interesting aspect of the project is that he has received numerous inquiries from people around the country and the suburbs who want to move back to the neighborhood…very cool.
This is going to exciting to watch develop.
