Yesterday before mass wrapped up at Corpus Christi, Father Anzelm Chalupka said he had an announcement…what he announced hit me like a ton of bricks. I knew it was coming sooner or later and had been in the works for quite some time, but it was still a shock nonetheless.
Saint Adalbert’s Basilica is going to close and merge with Saint John Kanty’s.
What was even more odd was that there was no mention in any of the this in the local media outlets…when I came home from church, I looked all over the web and in the paper and didn’t find one thing about it…even today…considering how the other church closings throughout the diocese have made the news prominently, I was surprised.
Under the plan, the Kanty’s-Adalbert’s merger will be examined in two years with the idea being if the merger isn’t going well, Kanty’s will merge then with St. Stan’s.
I will try to get more info later. I do know that Precious Blood is closing as well and merging with Saint Stephen’s on Elk Street.
