
(Gene Warner – Buffalo News 05/20/07) He lived in a modest flat, above his Broadway Market store. And yet, until he died in his apartment last June, few people knew that Waldemar Kaminski gave millions of dollars to Buffalo charities and neighbors.
Kaminski, who was 88, quietly ran his food stand, Kaminski Meats, for more than 50 years, making his hidden fortune by investing his hard-earned money in the stock market.
He donated millions to Roswell Park Cancer Institute … including $1 million for an endowed chair in pediatrics and $1 million to build a two-acre park on the institute’s campus.
Other beneficiaries of his generosity included the Father Baker Home, the Salvation Army, Hilbert College and Camp Good Days and Special Times. Kaminski even helped some families that frequented his Broadway store Market stand, paying part of their college tuition, mortgage payments or lines of credit.
