Fred F. “Fritz” Jablonski, a retired social worker and historian of Buffalo’s Polish East Side, died Wednesday in his Buffalo home after a brief illness. He was 76.

Born in Sloan, he made money as a boy by shining shoes in Central Terminal and as a bowling alley pinsetter. Earning a master’s degree at the University of Buffalo, he wrote his thesis about the once-thriving livestock industry on the East Side.
