On Friday I emailed Marlies Wesolowski Executive Director of the Matt Urban Center on Broadway for an update on The Crescent Village Project taking place around the Darul-Uloom Mosque.
The project is steaming right along…very exciting news!
Here is Marlies’ email response with a little background on the project and an update…
Crescent Village Project
Project content:encoded: The Crescent Village Project, a collaborative effort between the Matt Urban Center and the Darul-Uloom Mosque, is a major residential redevelopment initiative designed to stimulate the revitalization of the Broadway Fillmore neighborhood on Buffalo’s East Side. This exciting project proposes to employ a comprehensive neighborhood redevelopment approach consisting of:
- Targeted demolition of derelict properties
- Construction of 10 new subsidized single family homes
- Construction of 5-9 new market rate houses
- Acquisition, rehab and resale of existing homes
- Owner occupied minor & major home repairs
- Comprehensive code enforcement
- Rental units in the near future
The initial target population for the Project includes over 60 families who completed a housing needs assessment survey and have expressed an interest in homeownership within the Project’s target area.
