Richard C. Marcus, Francis R. Kowsky and the Am-Pol Eagle community newspaper will be honored during the Buffalo & Erie County Historical Society’s annual Red Jacket Awards dinner tonight in the Nottingham Court museum.

Marcus, a Buffalo lawyer, will receive the society’s Red Jacket Award for his civic contributions and efforts to preserve local history.

It is a copy of the silver peace medal President George Washington presented to Red Jacket, the Seneca Indian orator and leader, in 1792.

Kowsky, a Buffalo State College art history professor and authority on landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted, will receive the Owen B. Augspurger Award for service in the cause of local history.

The Am-Pol Eagle will be given the Daniel B. Niederlander Award for programming by a local heritage organization.
