The Mass was beautiful. The Chopin Singing Society was wonderful.<\/p>\n
But\u2026<\/p>\n
It was bittersweet.<\/p>\n
I still don\u2019t understand why the parish has to merge with Saint John Kanty\u2026sure I understand <\/em>the reasons given by the Buffalo Diocese, but there seems like another alternative could have been found.<\/p>\n In everything we have seen in the neighborhood and its decline over the last 20-30 years, a constant has always been these beacons of hope. \u00a0The basilica has withstood the decline and remained open. \u00a0Sure the parish wasn\u2019t what it was once. \u00a0But is was ALIVE.<\/p>\n Faith is bigger than a building\u2026I agree. But places like Saint Adalbert\u2019s are an embodiment of faith. \u00a0The people who built the basilica did it as part of their faith. \u00a0The people who brought life to it over the years did it because of their faith. \u00a0The people who have maintained it did it as part of their faith. \u00a0To have the parish disappear along with the community of Saint Adalbert\u2019s like it didn\u2019t matter anymore just seems wrong.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [nggallery id=152](click on images for full view) The Mass was beautiful.
