Well…it looks like the Buffalo Diocese is finally going to pull the plug on Saint Ann’s. \u00a0The closing date is set for 07\/27.<\/p>\n

Word leaked out today that an announcement will be made before Mass on Sunday detailing the news.<\/p>\n

From the Buffalo News<\/a>:<\/p>\n

An announcement is expected to be made at Mass on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The church\u2019s most active members quietly worked to rebuild membership as they continued to care for the massive building. They had hoped the bishop would reconsider a decision he made four years ago that would merge St. Ann parish with nearby SS. Columba & Brigid parish.<\/p>\n

Just last month, Kmiec celebrated the 125th anniversary of the church\u2019s consecration.<\/p>\n

But diocesan officials have maintained since the merger announcement in 2007 that the bishop eventually would move to reduce the status of St. Ann to secular use.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Why close it? \u00a0The church draws a decent amount of people. \u00a0The whole idea of Saint Ann’s being closed sickens me.<\/p>\n

I will try to get more info and some reactions from BFA’s friends at Saint Ann’s and what its parishioners intend to do.<\/p>\n
