{"id":7311,"date":"2011-02-13T14:18:47","date_gmt":"2011-02-13T19:18:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/?p=7311"},"modified":"2011-02-13T14:21:21","modified_gmt":"2011-02-13T19:21:21","slug":"tonawanda-news-a-little-broadway-in-these-sweet-treats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/broadwayfillmorealive.org\/2.0\/2011\/02\/tonawanda-news-a-little-broadway-in-these-sweet-treats\/","title":{"rendered":"Tonawanda News: A little &#8220;Broadway&#8221; in these sweet treats"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Danielle Haynes<\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em><em> The Tonawanda News<\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 \u2014 Lisa Courtney, owner of The Courtney Bakeshop at 727 Oliver St. likes to joke that she was born with a piece of chocolate in\u00a0her hand.<\/p>\n<p>It would be no surprise if she was \u2014 Lisa\u2019s family owned Grandison\u2019s Candy at the Broadway Market for about 60 years before it closed in 2003.<\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.cnhi.zope.net\/sites\/niagaragazette\/images\/tonawanda_logo.jpg?resize=212%2C90\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"90\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Confectionery is in Lisa\u2019s blood, but her talents lie more in cakes and pastries than in chocolates and candies. The Town of Tonawanda resident graduated with a certificate in NCCC\u2019s baking and pastry arts program in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great program,\u201d Lisa said. \u201cIt really taught me the chemistry of baking, and took (my abilities) to the next level.
