Things are winding down for fall.\u00a0 Or perhaps they\u2019re winding up!\u00a0 If you drive by the hoophouse this week, you\u2019ll notice that it\u2019s pretty empty.\u00a0 Gone are the tomatillos, cucumbers, pole beans, okra, and most of the tomatoes and peppers.\u00a0 What we are doing now is shifting into crops that will winter over in the hoophouse.\u00a0\u00a0 This week we planted spinach, lettuce, radishes, carrots, kale, mustard,\u00a0collards, peas, swiss chard and turnips.\u00a0 Some of these (like the mustard) were planted in the boxes outside and some (most) were planted in the hoophouse.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Some of these crops are experiments to see if I can plant them this late and still get something worth harvesting.\u00a0\u00a0 I know the lettuce, spinach, radishes and turnips will be harvestable.\u00a0 I\u2019ve done those outside in cold frames before.\u00a0 I\u2019ve not planted the others this late before\u2026 but I\u2019ve not had a hoophouse before, either.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see what happens.<\/p>\n
